About Us

Our motto: “Helping You Help Yourself to Independence”

We began operations in 1989 as a non profit 501(c)(3) organization known as the Berks County Center for Independent Living.  In 1997, we changed our name to Abilities in Motion (AIM) to demonstrate the expansion of our outreach efforts, additional services and programs.

Since that time AIM has grown each year in the number of programs offered and the number of people with disabilities served.

AIM is a leader in the community on the issues of consumer choice and control, and is one of 18 Centers for Independent Living (CIL) located throughout the state.

AIM’s staff serves over 3,000 people with disabilities throughout Berks County and the surrounding areas. As a Center for Independent Living, AIM provides: Information and Referral, Peer Counseling, Independent Living Skills Training, Service Coordination, and System Advocacy Change. All brochures and programs materials are “readily available” in both English & Spanish, and interpretive services are available upon request.

The fact that programs and the needs of consumers are invariably changing, is a challenge that everyone at AIM embraces with their commitment skills and knowledge. Some of the programs that have developed over the years rise to meet those challenges:  Consumer-Directed Attendant Care, Service Coordination, Agency with Choice, Housing, Financial Management Services, Nursing Home Transition and Children & Youth Services.
